Lia Milito

Lia Milito has spent decades working in education and public policy. Her lifelong urge to help transform communities brought her to the University of King’s College where she worked in recruitment and later led to a community affairs position at New York City’s department of transportation and now to Code for Canada where she manages the organization’s fellowship program

As the head of the fellowship program at the newly launched non-profit she helps modernize government services by tapping Canada’s most talented developers and designers from coast to coast. With her help, a select group of civic-minded tech workers work with the governments of Ontario and Canada. It’s a tough job, especially since the government is known to take longer than the private sector to implement change, but it’s a problem she’s tackling head on every day.

“As I consider my answer to this question, I’m thinking of all the great advice I’ve received from awesome women I’m lucky enough to know. First, seek out amazing women. They’re everywhere. Talk to them. Also: women tend to undersell themselves. You can fight that urge by describing yourself as you would if you were describing a friend or colleague.”
