About Madavi Sooriyapperuma

Madavi is the Program Coordinator for the Women Founders stream at the DMZ where she assists in planning, facilitating and executing within the women founders stream. Her role is focused on supporting women founders to help them achieve success and have a seamless experience at the DMZ.

Before joining the DMZ, Madavi spent over two years as part of the Student Engagement and Leadership team that operates the TMU Student Learning Centre (SLC). During her time there, she helped coordinate some of the SLC’s special projects, such as Shop The SLC and Taste of The SLC which gave TMU staff, faculty, students and alumni the opportunity to have free vending space on the SLC’s first floor. This project allowed TMU community members who owned small businesses to test out their product in our community and have access to a network of fellow entrepreneurs.

Currently, Madavi has an e-commerce business called Soma’s Sarees, a Canadian online saree boutique with the intention of providing an easy, affordable shopping experience for the saree-loving diaspora. While in university, she co-founded Treehouse Learning Labs during her undergrad, which allowed her to organize free workshops inspiring kids to choose careers in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics).

Beyond work, Madavi finds enjoyment travelling and trying new foods from around the world!
